Understanding Your Pathology:  Audio File -120 minutes
Guests:
Sydney Finkelstein, M.D.
Paula Kim

This program reviews and explains, in laymen’s terms, the role of pathology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or a medical condition.  Traditionally a Pathologist will look through a microscope under high magnification in determining a diagnosis.  Now, new technologies look at a specimen on a molecular and genomic level that cannot be seen by a microscope. It is explained how these testing methods look at the genetic changes that lay under the visual appearance of a specimen.  Learn how this genetic analysis can now provide for an early diagnosis and more personalized and targeted therapies. Pathology Special:  Audio File - 120 minutes
Guests:
Sydney Finkelstein, MD
William H. Young, MD

What is Pathology? How did Pathology evolve? Who is your Pathologist and what role does s/he play?  This informative program discusses the history, evolution and expanding specializations of Pathology.  The Pathologist has often been referred to as the ‘doctor’s doctor’.  The start of Pathology can be traced as far back at 1811.  However, its use in medical diagnosis and patient care became accepted practice at the end of the 19th century with the use of the microscope and thin cut specimens.  Both Dr. Finkelstein and Dr. Young discuss different types of pathology, i.e, surgical, clinical, molecular, etc., and how each specialization contributes to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other medical conditions.
